CAMBRIDGE, Mass. — Liquid AI, a foundation model company setting new standards for performance and efficiency, today announced that Sharp Corporation, a leading global technology innovator, has selected Liquid AI’s vision-language model (VLM) for integration into one of its bestselling smartphones, the SHARP AQUOS wish4. This milestone reflects a deepening technical collaboration between the two companies as they explore edge AI use cases together.

Sharp has selected Liquid AI’s 1B+1B Vision-Language Model (VLM) for integration into mobile phones. The model — composed of a 1-billion-parameter vision encoder and a 1-billion-parameter language model — was specifically designed to deliver high-performance multimodal AI on devices at the edge. In Sharp’s testing, it demonstrated exceptional efficiency and performance, meeting the company’s rigorous requirements for on-device deployment. This comes after prior attempts with other open-source models such as LLaMA failed to meet Sharp’s latency and memory efficiency needs for mobile deployment.
